National Governing Bodies of Sport such as British Skydiving operate in an increasingly demanding compliance environment. This new post reporting to the Secretary-General brings together the compliance function, other than for and financial compliance which is the responsibility of the Finance Manager, and sport parachuting operational compliance which is the responsibility of the safety and technical team led directly by the Chief Operating Officer.
British Parachute Association, soon to be known as British Skydiving, the not-for-profit National Governing Body for Sport Parachuting, seeks to recruit a Compliance Officer to complement its small staff team based at its Leicester HQ. The role will provide key support to the Chief Operating Officer, Secretary-General and Board in assuring compliance of British Skydiving with statutory and other external and internal compliance requirements - including data privacy and security, safeguarding, disciplinary and grievance procedures and whistleblowing - to support whilst ensuring that the needs of all our stakeholders are met.
After an initial peak in activity, in steady state, the compliance workload may ebb and flow. The guaranteed minimum weekly hourage will be 3. The appointee is expected to have the capacity to devote more than this (up to say 16 hours) should the workload require it.
It is envisaged that the post will be externally based. Trial of the role has established that a measure of distancing from the HQ office environment is likely to be desirable. However, frequent attendance at BPA HQ will be required and the Compliance Officer needs to be based within easy travelling distance. Either a contract for services or a contract of employment will be considered. The initial contract period will be a trial of six months, with the possibility of review and extension.
Remuneration will be within BPA's scale, based on relevant experience.
A methodical, accurate, diplomatic and responsive co-ordinator, a self-starter used to working in a compliance/legal environment, such as a paralegal, and able to manage and prioritise multiple demands. Good interpersonal skills to deal sensitively with a range of stakeholders. Excellent communication skills and written English is required. Good listening skills are essential.
