Jackie Smith has won the BPA Jim Crocker Sword for her Outstanding Contribution to Sport Parachuting. The only British inductee to the USA-based Skydiving Hall of Fame, Jackie joined the Parachute Regiment's Freefall Display Team the Red Devils in 1971 (see photo). She won numerous Nationals in Style & Accuracy and also in FS. In 1978, she took World Gold in Female Accuracy, being the first person in the world to score consecutively 10 x 0.00cm on an electronic pad at a World Championships. Jackie continued to compete and win medals and awards for many years after that.
Congratulations to Dan Guest, winner of the BPA Taz Causer Experienced Skydiver of the Year Award 2017. Dan has enjoyed an extremely successful skydiving year in 2017. He won the BPA Nationals in 3 different disciplines - CP, VFS and Freestyle - and also took Bronze at the World Cup in Freestyle. BPA Council has invited Dan to receive his Award at the presentation ceremony following the AGM at EMCC Nottingham NG7 2RJ on Saturday morning, 27 January. (Pic by Rob Lloyd)
BPA HQ will close at noon on Thursday 21 December and re-open after the holiday on Tuesday 2 January. Council and staff wish members compliments of the season.
Voting is now open for the 3 elected seats on Council that become vacant at the AGM. There are 4 candidates - Paul Applegate, Adrian Bond, Ian Marshall and Georgie Vacher. Full (voting) members should have received a ballot notification by email, except those who have opted for a ballot pack by post, which should have arrived before Christmas.
